Humal has long been a part of Tartu’s cultural history and came to life in Tartu in order to survive. Our idea was born out of a desire to offer visitors the freedom to be. It is freedom that is the key word that describes our nature in many ways, thereby expressing our choice of food and drink, valuing the historical space, reviving the name and the team that puts it into practice on a daily basis.
Although for most people Humal is associated with beer, the name Humal has always had a very deep meaning in Tartu. Since the second half of the 20th century, the name has been a part of Tartu’s beverage and food culture, has remained in the memories of many people and still evokes mainly nostalgic, but warm feelings. There are historical hours-long queues in the memorabilia, and the beer partially mixed with water offered from the bar definitely outweighs the emotion that Humal had created in Tartu.
That is why our most beautiful city, Tartu, must always have one Humal, albeit in a new location, but still in the heart of Tartu. Years have passed, but Humal is back in Tartu, wanting to offer memorable feelings, meaningful discussions and fun moments. Humal is a place where you have the freedom to remember, the freedom to enjoy and the freedom to just be yourself!
Humal wants to combine three important directions for food and beverage culture – restaurant, bar and pub. Our leading idea in food and beverage selection is based on an old but beloved pub culture, bringing it to the attention of Humal guests in a modern approach.
The rules we do not deviate from are the use of fresh raw materials, its local consumption and creation of maximum value. This way of thinking guarantees the freedom to be proud of what has been done.
Our people! There are too few words in our beautiful Estonian to describe how important our people are. They are the ones who come early in the morning and leave late, in the form of a smile and a desire to offer the best. Without them, Humal would certainly not be Humal.
